BELLINGHAM — A woman reported being raped early Monday in Maritime Heritage Park, according to Bellingham Police Lt. Steve Felmley.
At about 6:30 a.m., a transient who was camping on a bench near Prospect Street contacted officers driving by the park and told them she had been raped.
Officers used a police dog to track down a suspect, who was found under a bridge near Roeder Avenue, Felmley said.
The man was taken into custody and booked on an unrelated warrant, and will be held pending investigation of the rape. His name was not released because no charges related to the rape have been filed.
