FERNDALE — A man working in a wood shop Monday morning, Nov. 30, was injured when a stolen SUV rammed into the building, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred in the 4100 block of Rural Avenue at about 9:30 a.m., after the driver of a 1995 Chevy Suburban lost control going around a corner. The person tried to drive off after the crash but only made it about 100 yards before the SUV stopped moving from the damage. The driver then ran off and had not been found as of Monday evening, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Suburban had been stolen from Lummi Reservation earlier Monday.

The 66-year-old shop owner suffered some back injuries but did not go to the hospital. The shop was extensively damage and is likely a total loss, according to the sheriff’s office.
