A fishing boat caught on fire in Squalicum Harbor Sunday afternoon, Nov. 29.

Crews were alerted at about 12:48 p.m. to a fire in the upper wheelhouse of the fishing vessel "Gracia" which was tied up to a commercial docking area, said Bellingham Fire Chief Bill Boyd.

"The fire was quickly extinguished by the first in engine company," Boyd said.

The fire appears to have been caused by a short in an extension cord providing power to an appliance. The damage estimate is $3,000, Boyd said.
