FERNDALE - The Ferndale School District's Holiday Giving Store will be open again this year, ensuring that low-income and homeless children in the district have holiday gifts.

Last year, the store helped 500 Ferndale children who weren't already being served by other gift-giving programs.

Families with students enrolled in the Ferndale School District who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch can get an application to shop at the store from their school's Family Community Coordinator, school counselor or the district office, 6041 Vista Drive. Applications are due by Thursday, Dec. 17.

Community members who wish to donate items to the store can do so through their neighborhood school or by dropping them off at the district office by Dec. 17.

Needed items include diapers, educational toys and warm pajamas for children younger than 3; sweatshirts, dolls, remote control vehicles, books and mittens for kids ages 4 to 11; sports equipment, CD/MP3 players, board games and gloves for teens 12 to 14; blankets, gloves, make-up kits, socks and hooded sweatshirts for teens ages 15 to 17.

Checks made out to the Holiday Giving Store also can also be dropped off or mailed to Horizon Bank, 2045 Main St., Ferndale, WA 98248.
