Three Bellingham men were arrested late Tuesday, Nov. 17, after allegedly robbing a home in the 2700 block of Eldridge Avenue.

A homeowner discovered an intruder in his house around 11:30 p.m. and called police, said Mark Young, spokesman for the Bellingham Police Department. It's believed the intruder got into the house through an unlocked door.

After being discovered, the intruder and two alleged accomplices who were waiting outside ran away.

Within four minutes of receiving the 911 call, a Bellingham sergeant located two of the suspects at Maryland and Nome streets, Young said. One of the suspects had a backpack that contained a camera and a laptop computer belonging to the victim, he said.

A third suspect was located in some blackberry bushes down a ravine just west of Bellingham Technical College. A K-9 unit tracked the suspect to his location. All three suspects were taken into custody without incident, Young said.

David Maier, 19, was booked into Whatcom County Jail for investigation of residential burglary, second-degree theft and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

Christopher Wade, 20, was booked for investigation of residential burglary, second-degree theft, drug possession, making false and misleading statements, and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

Steven A. Chapman, 20, was booked for investigation of residential burglary, second-degree theft, making false and misleading statements, being a minor in possession of alcohol, and having possession of a knuckle knife, which is considered a dangerous weapon.

The alleged robbers did not know the victim, Young said. All three men remain in custody, he said.
