BELLINGHAM - Is Bella Swan too dependent on the men in her life, even if they are werewolves and vampires?
Western Washington University panel members will answer questions like that when they discuss the role of gender, relationships and race in the popular "Twilight" book series from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19.
The talk, "A Feminist Response to 'Twilight,'" is free and will take place in the Academic Instruction Center, room 204. Panelists are magazine editor Andi Zeisler, Western sociology of gender professor Jen Lois, Crime and Sexual Assault Services coordinator Devlin O'Donnell, and Kristen French of Western's Center for Education, Equity and Diversity.
The panelists will discuss their concerns about unhealthy relationships and gender roles that girls could pick up from author Stephenie Meyer's vampire book series.
