BELLINGHAM - People can try out a new city software that allows users to access everything from zoning and neighborhood information to utility data and aerial photos.
The software, called CityIQ, will be showcased at the city's annual GIS Day Open House, scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 18, at City Hall.
GIS, which stands for geographic information systems, is a computer-based mapping tool that takes database information and turns it into a visual map layer. Layers with information ranging from terrain to water features and buildings can be placed over each other.
The city's new software, developed by city GIS staff, incorporates GIS mapping and document search functions. It will be usable on the city's Web site by the end of 2009.
The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the lobby of City Hall, 210 Lottie St.
