Health care reform is focus of Oct. 23 talk in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM - A new coalition is putting on a forum Friday, Oct. 23, to walk the public through proposals for federal health care reform.

"Getting a Handle on Health Care - An Educational Forum" runs 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Luke's Community Health Education Center, 3333 Squalicum Parkway.

Whatcom Coalition for Health Care Reform organized the free event.

Forum speakers will be Dr. Chris Covert-Bowlds, a family physician in Whatcom County; Julia Weinberg, registered nurse and president of Washington State Nurses Association; and Larry Kalb, president of Health Care for All-Washington. They are expected to talk about legislation pending in Congress.

Coalition members are Whatcom Democrats, United for National Healthcare, Health Care For All-Washington, and MoveOn.org Bellingham Council.
