BLAINE - A development that would have 134 residential units in multiple buildings, plus retail and office space, has been proposed for about 16 acres in the 1700 and 1800 blocks of Peace Portal Drive.
Pacific Trails East Homes has put in an application for the Albert Avenue Mixed-Use Development, which will include 92 residential units in four-plex buildings and 42 assisted-living units set up in two multi-plex buildings. There also would be 3,750 square feet of retail and office space with a 6,312-square-foot commercial pad for future use.
A public hearing about the project is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Blaine City Hall, where people can submit written or oral comments to the Blaine Planning Commission.
The city of Blaine has determined the project will need some mitigation measures, including wetland, wildlife habitat and stormwater work, street and trail improvements and a play structure.
The earliest construction would begin is summer 2010, said Neil Latta, an engineer for Web Engineering, which is working on the development. The project has to go through permitting, and then would begin once the economy is more stable, he said.
IF YOU GO
The public hearing on the development will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Blaine City Hall, 344 H St. Written comments can be submitted to staff before the hearing. Comments are due to the city by Friday, Oct. 23.
