Man injured in crash near Sumas

A Maple Falls man was in critical condition at St. Joseph Hospital after he crashed his pickup truck on Reese Hill Road near Bishop Road Thursday afternoon, Sept. 24.
Rudi Helbig, 85, was driving north on Reese Hill Road shortly after 1:30 p.m. when his 1995 Chevy pickup went off the road, hit a dirt embankment and rolled.
The nature of his injuries was unavailable Wednesday night, and Washington State Patrol troopers continue to investigate the cause of the crash, Trooper Keith Leary said.
Helbig was not wearing a seat belt, according to the State Patrol.
