Crews will grind centerline rumble strips on three Whatcom County roads next week, improving safety by alerting drivers when they're crossing into the oncoming lane.
Crews will grind Mount Baker Highway from Dewey Road to the Silver Fir Campground, Highway 9 from the Whatcom/Skagit line to Sumas, and East Badger Road from Guide Meridian to Sumas.
Grinding will occur during the day, with pilot cars to guide traffic through the work zones. A precise schedule of when the work will be done wasn't available.
Crews also will paint lines on repaved sections of Mount Baker Highway, with these lane closures:
6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, and Monday, Sept. 21 between Deming and the south leg of Highway 9.
7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, and Friday, Sept. 25, at various locations between Britton Road and Coal Creek. Crews will also install guardrails along that stretch.
