Tami Elliott of Ferndale, president of the Washington’s Ladies Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, was named “Outstanding Department President of the Year” at the national convention in Phoenix.

Mojo Music’s 2009 community music festival raised $1,201 for Blue Skies for Children.

Max Nelson of Bellingham received a $1,500 grant from the MDU Resources Foundation. Nelson is the son of Cascade Natural Gas Corp. employee Gregory Nelson.

Artwork by Randy Van Beek of Bellingham has been selected for the 24th Annual Masters in Miniature Show at the C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, Mont.

Philip Lange has entered basic training at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. He is the son of Daniel and Cindy Lange of Ferndale and a 2009 graduate of Ferndale High School.

Western Washington University student Timothy Massey, son of Mike and Kate Massey of Bellingham, received a $1,500 President’s Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year. An incoming freshman, Massy had a 3.8 gpa at Sehome High School.

Western Washington University student Meghan Griffin, daughter of Jim and Theresa Griffin of Bellingham, received a $1,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year. An incoming freshman, she earned a 3.9 gpa at Bellingham High School.

Western Washington University student Jenna Shankman, daughter of Roy and Leslie Shankman of Bellingham, received a $2,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year. An incoming freshman, she had a 3.9 gpa at Squalicum High School.

Western Washington University student Osa Hale, daughter of Alan Hale and Lois Holub of Deming, received a $2,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year. An incoming freshman, Hale had a 3.9 gpa at Mount Baker Senior High School.

Western Washington University student Kristin Anzalone, daughter of Keith and Joline Anzalone of Bellingham, received a $2,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year. An incoming freshman, she had a 3.8 gpa at Bellingham High School.

Western Washington University student Christopher Rowell, son of Bruce and Karen Rowell of Bellingham, received a $2,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year. An incoming freshman, he had a earned a 3.0 gpa at Sehome High School.

Western Washington University student Kayla Anzalone,aughter of Keith and Joline Anzalone of Bellingham, received a $1,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year. An incoming freshman, she had a 3.6 gpa at Bellingham High School.
