State Rep. Doug Ericksen is inviting the public to a state health care reform town hall meeting Monday, Aug. 31.

Ericksen, R-Ferndale, is the ranking minority member on the House Health Care & Wellness Committee, and has offered up a bevy of bills that would reform the way health insurance is delivered in the state. None of the bills received hearings during the last legislative session.

Among the proposals would be allowing 18- to 34-year-olds, who make up half the uninsured in the state, to purchase private insurance plans that are stripped of some of the mandates required of plans in Washington. Another proposal would allow state residents to purchase plans from other states if that other plan would suit them better.

Ericksen's reform discussion takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bellingham's St. Luke's Community Health Education Center, Room A, 3333 Squalicum Parkway.

For more information, contact Ericksen at (360) 786-7980 or ericksen.doug@leg.wa.gov.
