Whatcom County planners have discovered that County Executive Pete Kremen's proposal for urban growth area updates would actually mean a net increase of 10 acres of agricultural land countywide.
In corrected information sent out Friday, Aug. 28, planners said they forgot to count land near Sumas that is slated to be turned from urban zoning to agricultural zoning. That means that after adding and subtracting urban land countywide, the net increase would be 10 acres of farm land.
Previously, they said the increase would be five acres. Before that, they said it resulted in a net decrease of 28 acres, but that number was wrong because they forgot to count land north of Everson that was being taken from urban zoning to ag zoning.
