BELLINGHAM - Western Washington University continues to be one of the best universities in the country, according to the annual U.S. News and World Report college ranking.
WWU is the third-best public, master's-degree-granting university in the West, a region stretching from Texas to Alaska, according to the ranking. WWU is the highest-ranking school in the Pacific Northwest on the list.
When compared to public and private master's-granting schools in the West, WWU is ranked 19th. Schools are ranked based on a variety of criteria, including academic reputation, student retention, faculty resources, tuition, financial aid availability and extracurricular activities.
There are separate rankings for liberal arts colleges, specialty programs and "national" universities, which are those with doctoral-granting or research programs.
