Puget Sound Energy is bringing its campaign to exchange incandescent light bulbs for energy-efficient ones door to door and to a local home improvement store.

PSE representatives will be at the Northwest Washington Fair, which runs Aug. 17-22 in Lynden, to recruit volunteers for upcoming door-to-door giveaways, which consist of teams of volunteers going to local neighborhoods to hand out energy-efficient light bulbs.

Though the dates aren't solid, PSE lists Aug. 26 and 30 and Sept 8 for possible giveaway dates in the Bellingham area.

The Rock the Bulb Tour will make a stop at the Bellingham Lowe's, 1050 E. Sunset Drive, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 19 and 20.

The event will feature activities for all ages, bulb exchanges and tips on how to save money by using energy-efficient bulbs, said Rebekah Anderson, PSE spokeswoman.

The energy-efficient bulbs use up to 75 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs while providing the same amount of light, Anderson said.

People who attend the event can bring in up to 10 incandescent light bulbs to exchange for one of six different styles of energy-efficient bulbs. PSE will have a display set up at the event to explain which bulbs work best for different lighting needs.

PSE will recycle all of the incandescent bulbs collected throughout the tour, Anderson said.

People interested in volunteering for the door-to-door giveaway can sign up online at porchlight.org.
